Disclaimer

  • The organisers, hip hop international, partners, sponsors & third party suppliers will not be responsible for all claims for damage or injuries of any kind, nature or description resulting from or related in any way to the participation in the Singapore’s Best Dance Crew competition.
  • Publicity release - All participants automatically grant permission to the organisers the use of any photographs and/or videos as well as printing of names of groups for advertising, promotional and publicity purposes.
  • If the grand champion crew withdraws from competing in the World Championships for any reason whatsoever, the crew shall reimburse the organisers on demand for all losses, cost and expenses suffered and incurred by the organisers as a result of the crew’s withdrawal.
  • The organisers reserve the right to substitute, add to or alter any item on the prizes offered before the national finals of the competition.The organisers reserve the right to substitute, add to or alter any item on the prizes offered before the national finals of the competition.
  • All prizes won by the crew at the competition shall not be transferable nor exchangeable for cash or otherwise.
  • There shall be no claims against the organisers or any of them, in the event the competition is annulled, cancelled or postponed by circumstances beyond the reasonable control of the organisers or any of them.
  • The organisers reserve the right to amend or vary any of these terms and conditions without prior notice to any contestants.
  • The grand champion crew / winner(s) of SBDC 2011 will be required to perform a maximum of 6 shows in total for the organisers within a period of 6 months from the date of the finals.
  • The grand champion crew / winner(s) of SBDC 2011 will be required to endorse & promote sponsor(s) brand of product(s) for a period of 6 months from the date of the finals.
  • The grand winner(s) are STRICTLY NOT ALLOWED to participate in any form of dance competition till after completing and fulfilling all obligations in the World Hip Hop Dance 2011 Championships 2011 in the USA. Winners are only allowed to perform at any event except at any competitions.
  • All contestants, by participating in the competition, agree to be bound by these terms and conditions.

Entrant Eligibility

  • Crews must abide by the eligibility rules of the Singapore’s Best Dance Crew competition. SBDC 2011 is only open to Singaporeans.
  • Entrants entered into international and world events are responsible for certifying their national eligibility.

Composition of a Crew

  • A crew consists of a minimum five (5) to a maximum of six (6) members.(Hip Hop) and three (3) members for B-Boy Crew.
  • The members of the crew may be made up of any combination of males and females within the defined age division.

Age Divisions

  • Varsity: Ages thirteen (13) to seventeen (17)
  • Adult: Ages eighteen (18) to thirty five (29)
  • Example: A 17 year old turning 18 within the competition year (by 31 Dec) can compete as a Varsity or Adult.

Participation Limit

  • A crew member may not compete in more than one (1) crew per age division per competition.

Competition Categories

  • Hip Hop Crews (see above age division)
  • B-Boy Crews - 13-29 years (NO age division)
  • All styles - 13-29 years (NO age division)
  • Note: A crewmember may not participate in more than one crew per age division per competition.

Hip Hop Routine Length

  • The routine’s length is two (2) minutes. A grace period of five (5) seconds plus or minus is allowed resulting in a minimum of two minutes ten seconds (2:10) and a maximum of two minutes twenty seconds (2:20). Timing begins with the first audible sound (includes cueing beep) and ends with the last audible sound.
  • Routine length (music) that is less than (<) two minutes ten seconds (2:10) or is greater than (>) two minutes twenty seconds (2:20) will result in a deduction.
  • Participants in All styles category are given a duration of one minute & fifteen seconds (1:15) to showcase their routine.

Performance Criteria and Value

  • The judges will reward crew choreography incorporating unique and original/creative moves, a balance of hip-hop styles from Old School and New School and music usage.
  • Choreographing and presenting your two-minute routine in a unique and one of a kind way with old school and new school combinations that are yours alone. Original ways to go to the floor, getting up from the floor, transitions, moves, music editing, clothing and a unique look and style that sets you apart from the other routines. Be special, different and fresh with all aspects of your routine.
  • Sound effects and original composition are permitted. Caution is advised against the music becoming too complex with too many edits, sound effects or songs preventing a clean and tight performance, which can negatively impact a crew’s total score.
  • The performance music of every crew must include a minimum of 30 seconds of continuous and uninterrupted music (no added sound effects or edits) for varsity and adult routines. This segment can be placed anywhere within the routine. The remaining portions of the routines can utilise sound effects and edits as before. Failure to include this new music segment in the routine will account for a deduction in score.
  • B-Boy crews are judged on their performance of the essential foundations of B-Boying consisting of top rock, up rock, legwork, footwork, power moves, freezes, personality and entertainment value.
  • B-Boy crews consist of three (3) members and may be any gender. Substitution of crew members is strictly not allowed.
  • Based on the total number of crews entered, qualifying rounds of six (6) minutes each will be conducted to narrow the field of competition to the top eight (8) crews by point system.
  • Two (2) crews will battle at a time to determine who advances to the next round.
  • The top eight (8) crews selected will battle in the quarter final rounds, each lasting six (6) minutes until the final four crews have been chosen. The final four crews will battle in the two (2) semi final rounds each eight (8) minutes to determine the top two crews.
  • The final four crew will battle in the two (2) semi final rounds each six (6) minutes to determine the top two crews.
  • The top two crews will battle in a six (6) minutes round for the "B-Boy Battle" title.
  • Physical contact in battles will not be tolerated and may result in a disqualification or a score deduction for the crew or crews involved.
  • Inappropriate sexual gestures are not advised.
  • All battle music will be selected by the competition DJ.
  • The judge panel determines order of appearance of crews throughout the battle.
  • Individual crew members may only compete in one crew.
  • The winning crew will walk away with the title Singapore’s Best B-Boy Crew and stand a chance to represent the nation at the World B-Boy Crew Championship in USA.
  • The final decision lies in the hands of the judges to send either a B-Boy Crew OR a Hip Hop Crew OR both Crews to represent Singapore and be crowned Singapore’s Best Dance Crew.
  • All participants agree to conduct themselves in a manner displaying good sportsmanship throughout the event. The advisor and/or captain of each team is responsible for seeing that team members, coaches, parents, and any other person affiliated with the team conduct themselves accordingly. Severe demonstrations of unsportmanlike conduct are grounds for disqualification as explained in these rules.

Code of Conduct

  • We require the following to be adhered to during the event. This will ensure a positive experience for everyone involved
  • The organisers reserve the right to refuse service to or disqualify any individual or team.
  • Any disorderly behaviour by coaches, participants, parents or spectators will result in removal from the event.
  • Questions or concerns that affect a team’s performance must be presented only by the coach or team leader of the respective team to the officials in writing.
  • Protests of any kind will only be accepted in writing. Resolutions will not be made at the event.

Grand Preview / Finals

  • Finalist from each category / age division must perform their hip hop dance routine or battle for b-boy crews at the grand finals preview on 11 June at 5.00pm. All finalists are required to perform in their event T-Shirt provided free. All finalists must perform in the official footwear sponsored CROCS sneakers at both the preview & grand finals of SBDC 2011.
  • Failure to adhere to the rules will result in point deduction or disqualification.
